Q: I've been reading through the pet questions and came across something several times about gradually changing the foods. This worries me! I usually buy purina (yes I know it's bad now!) and I go between the indoor formula and the complete formula. I buy one 18 lb bag every two weeks. I have been alternating, but I wasn't mixing the different types, my cats haven't complained and their poo isn't any stinkier than usual. So what have I been doing to my cats that I can't see? Thanks everybody! I feel better about it now. I've been trying to research the best foods out there for cats that are still easy to find and not so expensive. I also feed them wet food every 2-3 days to try and give them a balanced diet.
A: The reason you have not had a problem is because the types of foods you chose are very similar for the digestive system. For example, you did not go from a dry bland kibble to a rich canned oil based wet. Or something of that nature. And also, some pets are simply more adaptable than others. We just ask clients to switch slowly to avoid a potential problem and make it easier for the pet to get used to - especially the older ones. I hope that helped a bit :)
